ABOUT CHARLES
I’m Charles, a south Charlotte dad, civil litigation attorney, and longtime community organizer running for Mecklenburg County Commission.
I’m a fourth generation North Carolinian living in south Charlotte with my wife Caroline and my 1 year old daughter Wren. I got interested in civic engagement when I saw an increasing number of people disengaging because of the divisive nature of our politics. We can’t fix what’s broken if the people who care most stay on the sidelines. So when my friends said they didn’t want to get politically involved, I decided I would.
To combat the national epidemic of political divisiveness I worked on local solutions. I started a nonprofit to make cross-perspective political conversations more accessible. I worked with Indivisible to help young people in Charlotte engage in civic life. And eventually, I was elected a Regional Vice Chair of the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party, where I focused on utilizing our volunteers to serve local non-profits in addition to turning out voters. Along the way, I’ve met so many dedicated leaders across the county who are working every day to push our community forward.
With Commissioner Meier choosing not to run again after years of impactful service, I felt called to step up as well.
I’m running because I care deeply about Mecklenburg County and believe every generation, especially young families like mine, deserves a voice in shaping our future. I hope to add my background, my energy, and my perspective as a young parent to the work already being done. And by stepping forward, I want to show other young people that public service isn’t something reserved for “someone else.” It’s accessible, it’s meaningful, and when more of us bring our experiences into local government, our community becomes stronger.
